Bacon and egg pie
Bacon, eggs and pastry. A match made in heaven!
Food has always been a big part of my life, right from a young age. My Mum is a true foodie who taught herself French cuisine and went on to own her own café. Growing up my sisters and I were always fed healthy, wholefoods with recipes from around the world. From a young age I was hooked!
I left school early to study patisserie and general catering and went on to work for a time as a chef but as a head strong 17 year old, my focus was on other things. I chose and stuck with a career elsewhere but my love of food continued to develop – growing, preparing, photographing, discussing, experimenting, eating…
A common passion for all things food is what brought my husband and I together, and we now see it coming through in our children too. We can’t even scramble eggs these days without a little ‘helper’ on a step-stool beside us.
Our children are really the reason I decided to launch this site. One of my favourite things to do with my Mum is discuss new recipes we’ve discovered or created and new places we’ve eaten. The food she prepared for us as children, I now make for my children. Since becoming a mother one of my goals is to write down those recipes to share with my kids – and what better way than to capture them online.
Good food does not need to be complicated or time consuming, though as you build your confidence in the kitchen it can be both. I’m certainly by no means an expert on any particular cuisine or cooking technique but food is my passion and I am at my happiest in the kitchen.
Established in January 2016, I intend to build this site into a collection of recipes, meal ideas and foodie tips to help bring flavour to your day. I will bring you the food we like to prepare and eat. We have international tastebuds so these pages will include flavours from all over the world. Based in New Zealand, my recipes and posts will generally feature produce available during the southern hemisphere seasons, though I am not bound by this and if we feel like a “traditionally” winter meal when its 29C outside, then that’s what we’ll cook.
Follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram, or I’d love to hear from you at thefaresage@gmail.com.
I hope you find something here to tantalise your tastebuds and perhaps inspire you to try something new. Happy cooking!
Note: all images and recipes, unless otherwise stated, are mine. Please get in touch if you’d like to use them. If you recreate or adapt any of my recipes please let me know and link back to this site. Thank you.
